Men and women

They say that “men are from Mars and women are from Venus”. I never quite understood the logic behind the statement. It only implies that we are from different planets (literally, indeed)!

Apart from the biological and physiological differences that we have, we also differ in mentality. In different life situations, we usually react differently. While men may come with rational and practical solutions to a problem, women tend to think emotionally. This has more or less nothing to do with physiological difference. It’s the way we’re brought up by our parents and society. But the thumb rule is, we can’t live without each other. Here, I’m not only implying romantically but also otherwise. Most independent women at some point of their life need a companion (and vice versa).

I read an article stating that women are now capable of getting pregnant without a man with scientists claiming that they can make artificial sperm in lab and so women are better off without men. I would counter “are men only important for producing offspring?” “Aren’t they an emotional support to their mothers and wives and daughters?” “Don’t they satisfy a woman’s physical and emotional needs?” On the contrary, even men can’t actually stand the thought of living without women.

Men and women though different, are very much similar when it comes to sex or sexual activity. They more or less have the same amount of intercourse throughout their life span. Although women are generally very reserved when it comes to their sex life, the reality is that they want it as much as men if not more.

The truth has been revealed that men peak in their early 40s and women in their mid-20s. It does mean that men are generally better looking in their yester years and women have already gone through their peak at the age of 30. This is the reason why we see an increasing age gap in relationship. This is quite fascinating to witness. A man in his 30s, 40s or 50s may well get attracted to a young girl in her 20s. But then why do girls of this age get attracted to older men. Well this can be attributed to physical appearance to an extent and also that for a man it’s all about status (generally). George Clooney is an example of a man well past his mid life but is still regarded as one of the sexiest men alive. A woman of that age may hardly feature in that list though there are notable exceptions like Monica Bellucci and Salma Hayek. This pairing of older man and younger woman is there since the ages though the age gap is a lot less. It also comes down to the evolutionary fact that men tend to look into younger women because they represent youth and fertility. It shows that they can take better care of their offspring! Women on the other hand look if the man is capable of providing her comfort monetarily or otherwise.

Men were the official bread winners of the family but as eras changed, people’s perceptions changed and women today enjoy a better life and are, in many cases, the bread winners of their family. It’s hardly ever seen that a younger man looks out for an older woman. But since the term MILF was coined in the film American Pie, the cougar phenomenon has progressed rapidly and also because women are earning the same as men today. An older woman (in her 40s) might get attracted to a man in his mid-30s. In this way, the gender roles have changed because a woman might choose a man only based on his attractiveness and a man might choose her based on her status.

After all the fuss though by taking proper care of themselves, anybody can remain attractive and desirable regardless of age and sex.

Both the sexes are inseparable. They would need each other crisis or no crisis. It is up to us to break the gender stereotypes that exist and accept each other the way we are.

  1. Love is all our soul needs, souls don't see age, gender, race, social status or it's stigma. All a soul can see is it's soulmate or just an illusion of it.
