Objectification of Women

“It’s completely normal to objectify women.” “It’s normal to get aroused by getting even a glimpse of any of women’s body parts.” Seriously?

Recent studies have actually shown that it’s the male brain’s perception to see women as sex objects. Perhaps, it has something to do with the male reproducing hormone, Testosterone, which has got the better of males and is responsible for heinous crimes against women.

In humans, there are usually two sexes. Both are differently programmed, both see the same things from a different perspective, both sexes differ in ideology and also differ in physicality. I am not stereotyping any gender but it is the way every human has been brought up and raised. If the person is a girl, she will be restrained to do a certain type of work only. If the person is a boy, he will be taught to bottle up his emotions until they burst out some day.

Now we come to nature’s way of programming men and women. Research has revealed that men are biologically programmed to see women as sex objects! Euphemizing the statement, I want to say that women are considered objects of desire since time immemorial and over the globe. We can’t do much about this fact but accept it. Soft skin, hourglass shape and feminine face are some of the attributes we stereotype with women. Who doesn’t like these attributes? At least men do!

Men and women both develop hormones inside their bodies. Coming back to testosterone, the T-levels inside a man’s body actually govern his character traits. Higher T-levels usually mean character traits like aggression and domination not to forget jealousy. When a male’s T-levels rise beyond a certain point, he can have sex on his mind all the time. Then, is it safe to assume that men who rape and tease women can be justified for their actions because it is the way their body functions? It is as if the high T-level male can’t control his desire or his hunger or lust for women but I’m not talking about the extreme levels a male can go to satisfy his physical needs. Behavior is also, to some extent, governed by the T-level inside a man’s body. Such a strong need of domination usually suppresses the feelings of love and compassion towards the opposite gender. They have difficulty treating the opposite sex with the care and respect they deserve. But living in a society governed by ethical considerations, one of a sane mind knows the difference between right and wrong. He knows his boundaries and knows the consequences of his actions.

So then, when does this stop? When does this objectification stop? Well, we can’t control the functioning of the brain but we can surely control our actions and deeds. We’re mature enough to understand that being the stronger gender (only in physicality) doesn’t give us the undue advantage over our counterparts. So, with time and maturity we should be able to control the libidinous drive inside our minds and bodies with rationality and not by emotions.
