Sexual Desire in men and women

Disclaimer: This article has generalized some traits of men and women’s sexual nature; however, it doesn’t mean that all men and women act in this way. Read on more to find out!

From a masculine perspective, testosterone plays a huge role in how a man’s body and mind function. It is the hormone which develops traits like a deeper voice, a physically strong body, rational thinking (as opposed to emotional thinking) and disagreeableness in a man. It is the same hormone responsible for sexual desire in them.

A woman’s sexual desire is more mental. A man’s sexual desire is more physical. It means a woman generally needs a lot more time and effort to get turned on. She must feel very safe, secure and be in the right mood and should be with the right person at the right time to think of having sex for the first time with a new person. This contrasts with how a man acts if he sees the opportunity to have sex. In other words, women are very picky when it comes to choosing a sexual partner. Women already have handful number opportunities to have sex; it is up to their willingness and their desire to choose the most attractive option. Men on the other hand, have less options and opportunities when it comes to having sex (unless they hire a sex worker). Thus, they always want to have sex if they have a chance.

In the modern world, however, more women want to explore their sexuality and are willing to have sex with as many men as possible. Does that mean there is more chance for an average man to have sex? No! Again, as I stated earlier, women want to explore only with the most attractive options they have got. Thus, the most attractive men have plenty of women at their disposal to have sex with.

Fundamentally, humans are programmed to think about two things: Survival and Procreation. This animalistic nature of humans is comparable to any other species that exists on the planet. Our ancestors spent most of their lives worrying for their own safety and getting food and water from their surroundings. Some days when they felt they were safe, they indulged in procreation. Now, with our sophisticated and usually safe lives, we have built a world where we still need to ensure our survival. We must study or go to work every day. Imagine a hypothetical future scenario where we don’t have to work, and all the machines ensure that we get the food and water from our surroundings. In that case, we would constantly be thinking about sex and indulging in sexual activities!

Even though we have work, some of us are constantly pre-occupied with sexual thoughts. Due to the sexual revolution and freedom, the advent of social media, and dating and hook up apps, we see how people have grown distant from each other. Women have too many options to choose from and average men are left with nothing. The most common way people meet today are through dating apps.

In a way hook up culture only advantages the hyper successful and attractive men and disadvantages a huge proportion of men. These top-tier men have no incentive to pursue a meaningful relationship because of the abundance of women. Thus, only a tiny percentage of men and women pursue a long-term relationship where children are involved too.

To have a fulfilling relationship, a man must take care of her woman’s financial and emotional needs. In contrast, a woman must take care of her man’s physical needs. Women are emotional beings and as much as they portray that they don’t need a man to take care of themselves, at the end of the day, they desire feeling safe and warm with another person when they go to sleep. Men have the evolutionary need to constantly indulge in sexual activity with their partner to feel loved. It is just the way it is!

To conclude, men and women have very different kinds of sexual desires. The more we try to alter the rules of nature, the more the possibility of becoming distant from each other. Perhaps, even in the modern world, some traditional thoughts and values need to be accepted.
